Things you need to know about the new free credit scores

The Fed Reserve has issued the new credit score disclosure rules on July 6th and it is an irony that would-be borrowers would actually benefit from buying their credit scores rather than getting them for free. It would prove to be far more advantageous for them to buy them. But the borrowers who don’t get their scores might feel that they don’t really have to buy them.

Thanks to the new rules by Fed, the lenders will have to supply the potential borrowers with credit scores in case they are denied access to credit or in case they are offered terms that are less favorable due to their credit scores. Beginning on July 21st, applicants who have been rejected for credit cards, auto loans, and student loans will get to see their credit scores.

Obtaining your credit scores before the loan application gets rejected is much better than getting the application rejected because of a poor credit score. This will really serve no purpose. So, if you feel that your credit score could be marginal, it is better to figure out a way to obtain your credit scores early, so you will have time to work on it and bring them up before applying for a loan.

These are some of the things that you will have to consider before the new rules come into place:

-          If you manage to obtain your credit score, it is really good news for you. There are some lenders who might send you your credit scores. They might be sending the scores of all the applicants as this is a less complex way to do it without breaking the rules, states Nessa Feddis from the American Bankers Association. So, just getting the credit report with the credit scores is not an indicator that your score is the worse or you will get a bad deal.

-          The credit report you get may also be much more significant than your credit scores. Since, you can get a credit report for free, all the important data of your credit history would be located here and your credit scores will be based on that. It is important to check your annual credit report to see that there are no errors in them. You can go to the official website and get your free credit report once a year from the 3 major credit reporting agencies such as TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian.

-          If your credit history is good you don’t have to buy your credit scores. But it is important to get the right score.
