There have been a number of instances when credit cards have been stolen and the person had to shell out his or her hard earned money to clear the credits used by someone else in order to clear his or her name as it becomes very hard to convince the credit card companies that the credit card was stolen etc.

Not only this when identity theft occurs innocent people become victims as they have been arrested for the crime committed by someone else who have used their name, address etc. Identity thefts can be identified when an innocent person is arrested for criminal activities, financial frauds etc.

Ways to protect yourself from identity theft:

  1. You need to shred pre-approved applications which contain your financial status etc so that no one has an access to these.
  2. Beware of hackers who may use your ATM pin number when you use these facilities.
  3. Cancel credit cards which have not been in use for more than six months as these are the most open to such unscrupulous targets.
  4. Use passwords for your accounts.
  5. Avoid carrying unnecessary identification details until and unless absolute necessary.
  6. It’s always best to memorize your security number rather than noting it down somewhere.
  7. Do not disclose your personal details to persons whom you are not acquainted to.
  8. Monitoring all bank accounts and other minor details will help you in know if anything is amiss thus alerting you on any identity theft.
  9. Use credit cards with your picture so as to prevent identity thefts.
  10. Make it a habit to have your have your credit report at least twice a year so that you will know if all the details are noted correctly and in case of any dispute you can take suitable action and bring it to the notice of the required persons.

These are some of the minor details that you need to take care of so as to prevent identity thefts.
