This is a term used when a person impersonates you for his or her own personal benefit in terms of money, property etc. Identity theft brings a lot of sufferings to the person who has been impersonated as he or she is held responsible for the action he or she did not commit.

There are ways wherein an identity has been stolen without actually committing any fraud etc., this is clearly evident when a data regarding all the information of a person is stolen.
