Criminal nowadays are also going with the trends and advancements in technology.  Now you can see criminals operating online and uses the latest technology.  The internet could get really scary if you don’t always remind yourself to be very careful at all times. With the recession that has hit the entire world, even in the most progressive nations, one can think of any way to survive, even if it would be at the expense of innocent people and an identity thief is one of them.

Identity theft, tagged as the fastest growing crime in the world online and offline has victimized millions of people and trillions of dollars in the last five years. Thieves have different reasons and purposes of committing identity theft but of course money still is the main reason.

A thief could be granted a loan with somebody else’s personal information. While the thief enjoys the cash the victim is left with a payable.  What could even be worse is when the loan amount granted is too high and the terms are unreasonable.

Receiving an unknown bill could be a little more acceptable than receiving a court order for a certain crime that ‘you’ committed. In this case, you lose your reputation with your identity.

Aside from your reputation and liberty being taken away from you, an identity theft victim could also be deprived of the right of employment, government and private company benefits and insurance.

Now, after reading on this, would you still be so lax in keeping your personal records? You can’t afford to lose a bunch of money especially your reputation and credibility. Of course no single reason to do that.  Don’t just give out any of your information unless they are for legal purposes.

Thieves also obtain information from wallets either stolen or not, identifications, slips, cards are just few of the possible resources. So when you lose your wallet, inform your banks, credit and loan company and your workplace about it so they could hold any transactions under your name. don’t worry too much about credit cards getting hold, besides, most issuers provide a replacement in a week.

We all know how popular social networking sites are. You can post photos and some not too sensitive information about you but never ever commit any mistake of posting highly sensitive info of yourself. With the many people who can freely access your page, you can’t pinpoint who could do the crime on you.

For a company to be safe from thieves, put on password in the net work; this will give an outsider a hard time opening private files in the company and once an employee gets terminated or quits, deactivate all his passwords and access and as much as possible change all the existing passwords. It might take up a little of your time but you can’t compromise your safety and your clients’.

Now that you already know the basic facts about identity theft, there would be no more reasons for you to be the next victim of these criminals.
