Giving Identity Theft the Fight it Deserves – Flawlessly

If you are one of those who use to believe that identity theft prevention is only for those who have a lot to protect, you are wrong. Identity thieves are not basing their fraudulent acts on a person’s bank account but on those who are seemingly unaware that such a crime is in existence. These days, mothers, students, and teens are the most vulnerable to the said crime. It is because the latter are the ones who appear to be naive and who tend to be careless on their credit reports or transactions via the internet.

One of these days, if you continue to be careless and unaware, it is but expected if you complain of significant changes on your credit report such as unpaid bills from purchases you have not made, or from telephone lines of companies who claim you have applied for. Things such as loan applications under your name can also appear. These are just some of the things to prove that indeed, identity theft has gone a long way and can victimize even the most ordinary person to date. Now, who can claim that identity theft prevention is only for the rich?

Identity theft will have no space in your life if you follow certain identity theft prevention schemes. One of which is to be consistent in checking your credit report. This is given free by the 3 major credit reporting agencies once in 12 months.

Study the said report. Be on the lookout for certain changes like sudden piling of purchases in a day, etc. This may be hinting identity theft is already happening to you. If ever you have noted that there is really something strange happening to your account, do not hesitate to ask credit reporting agencies to label your account to Fraud Alert or Credit Freeze to avoid further damage.

Another identity theft prevention tip that is so simple, yet most likely to be forgotten is not to throw legal documents in the garbage that have not been shredded into pieces. This will prevent anyone, with or without the intention of stealing your identity, from getting hold of even the most trivial information (like what is favorite shoe company, who knows?) about you.

Identity thieves will not stop from thinking of ways to steal from you. On your part, never stop being careful and find ways to protect yourself. An identity theft prevention tip is to always be discreet about the information you give to strangers; may it be a bank teller, an online shop application or your friendly neighborhood mechanic; you never know who is on the lookout. Scammers are just waiting for that “slip” from you. Do not give them the chance.

The government understands that sometimes you can’t help it but feel helpless when bombarded with the endless schemes of these thieves. You do not have to worry too much because there are laws to protect you. An example of which is the FCRA (the Federal Fair Credit Reporting Act). This act assures consumers of their rights and protection from frauds and things alike. You are not alone in your battle against Identity theft. That is an assurance.
