Prevent Your Business from All identity Theft Attacks

Identity thieves could hit anyone and if you’re wondering how your personal information could have landed in their hands, here are some places or ways how they do it:

There are what are called the shoulder surfers. These are people who look over your shoulders for PIN’s and credit card numbers. There are also what we could call dumpster divers where they look on your trash cans for receipts, identifications, statement and all other items where some information could be indicated.  And of course, the computer which is the easiest and widest place for hackers to steal some of your information.

Follow the things indicated in this article and you sure will not be the next victim of identity theft.

If you’re into business, secure your business premises with a lock and alarm.  When an alarm is installed in your system, identity theft criminals would have second thoughts intruding your system. For external doors, make sure that they are secured with security films and bars and deadbolts.

For all your business records and documents, always store them in safe place like locked cabinets and never ever leaving them unlocked at night and on weekends. Back up files should be kept on the computer data base or better yet in a security deposit box in a bank.

Business records and documents ready for disposal should not just be thrown in the trash can; identity theft offenders like dumpster divers would thank you for doing that careless act. That’s why shredders are created not to just have an easy paper disposal of paper trash but also to make disposed reports and documents be completely useless to thieves. Mails, bills, receipts and any item which could contain sensitive information should be shredded.

At work, you should limit computer usage. It would be safer if you create passwords which would protect the network so an outsider won’t be able to access the system. Hackers are the number one enemies of small to big business companies so never have second thoughts protecting your computers. Install firewalls, anti-virus and anti-phishing programs to make sure that you get warned when there is a threat of system intrusion. If you’re running with the windows, have a regular update for some security hole fixing.

Identity theft could be done by even the best ex-employees of a company so when one leaves the job or worse gets terminated, make sure that he loses all his access to all company documents especially those accessed through a company’s internal network.  It could be very much possible that even if the person is no longer connected to the business, he could have some malicious intentions of accessing the files for the purpose of using it for some illegitimate transactions.

A lot of us might think that the fight against identity thieves could be hard with all the technological advancements around us but the truth is, it only takes simple yet careful steps to stop them from making us their next victims. Just follow this guideline and you’ll feel safe and secured.
