This happens because we do not really think that it will happen to us out of the millions of other people in the world. Number one reason why we become victims of identity theft is that because we do not really understand what it is. Our ignorance blinds us from what is actually happening and the danger that it could bring into our lives. We do not care about identity theft and we do not see it as something important. Since we do not see it as important we give it little thought. We do not protect ourselves by following appropriate identity theft prevention methods simply because we do not think it is important.
Another reason is that we become too confident in the security that technology brings. Technology has given us convenience that the people of long ago did not have. There are many things we can do with our technology that we begin to depend on them for almost everything including identity theft prevention. We do not realize that it is also technology that made it easier for identity thieves to get the information that they need and it is also the technological development of our world that developed the systems that these identity thieves exploit.
Another is that we sometimes become too trusting. We usually trust the things that we see especially in the internet. We still believe the myth that everything we see in popular media is correct. This makes us too trusting that offers in the internet are accepted only to find out that the information that they have provided is used for stealing their identity. Identity theft prevention also means judging safe information exchanges especially in the internet.
A fourth reason is that we also don’t think that much of our personal information. We think that people will have no use for that kind of information that we become careless in its protection and also its disposal. We do not realize that what we might be throwing away can be used against us when it comes to identity theft. The identity theft prevention measure here is to stop this from happening is that we should know what information that these identity thieves can use and dispose of it in a more appropriate way.
The fifth reason why we do not often follow identity theft prevention measures is simply because we find it troublesome. Many find it troublesome to follow a set of instructions especially if we think that it will not probably happen to us. We do not follow preventive measures because we label it as something troublesome and make it difficult for us to do them no matter how simple they may be.
It is always better to be safe than sorry. Prevention is better than suffering because of the lack of it.
