Hassle Free Tips to Remember on Identity Theft Prevention

In this world, where everything is fast paced and technology related, it is no wonder why your identity can be easily snatched by someone you do or do not know. In order to prevent such, here are some tips on identity theft prevention.

First, when withdrawing and/ or doing any financial transactions over the counter or through an automated machine (ATM) cover your hands when entering your personal identification number (PIN). Be sure that no one can see the numbers that you enter. Try to change your PIN at least every two months to ensure that no one knows it. One easy step in identity theft prevention is to tear the transaction receipts into pieces and throw it immediately in the trash bin nearby, and do not just leave it on the floor or beside the ATM.

Second, keep your PIN only to yourself and do not tell it to anyone. Also, do not use the same password for several accounts. Nicknames, anniversaries and birthdates are so easy to decode. Give this a reasonable time to think about this, for this is for you and your account’s protection anyway. If you have to write down your PIN or passwords for financial or email accounts, be sure that it is kept in an organizer or a notebook that you always bring, but you do not have the tendency to forget.

Third, be extra cautious when logging in any social network. Some may introduce themselves or simply add you as a friend. Prevent from adding up or befriending people you do not actually know. Also, try to be careful when you enter your password for emails and social networks like Plurk, Multiply, Friendster and Facebook. The people around you may be looking and catching the passwords you enter. Before paying out in the cashier, be sure that you have properly logged out all the accounts that you have opened.

Fourth, if you have ample time you can try to claim and pay your bills personally. If not, at least try to send the bills through the post office instead of leaving the task to the postman. The identity snatchers or thieves may be looking around and catch your bill then make accounts under your name using the account number that you leave with your bill. If you want to prevent this from happening but you cannot send the bills to the post office, you can buy a lock for your post box at home.

Last but not the least, identity theft prevention is to keep track on the dates when you receive your bills, in this case you become a responsible payee and you can check if someone is keeping the bills that you should receive. You can ask for these for free, and your company can send this to you without extra charge. And whenever you notice that your bills are late, contact your company and ask when the exact date that you can expect the bills to come. And when you have already paid, check if they have already received the payment and when you will receive the receipt.
