Do you regularly check your credit report? Do you know what has happened lately with your credit report and whether or not there are problems with it? A regular checking of your credit report is surely a great habit. Review your credit score and search whether or not there are changes that have happened to it, as the credit rating can surely be affected by negative changes.

Checking the credit report also plays a very important role when you become suspicious about strange activities. If you are suspicious about the fact that something strange is happening with your credit report, then you should immediately check the credit report and inform the authorities, as you might be the victim of identity theft. Unfortunately, there have been too many cases of identity theft in the past few years and the sooner the authorities are informer, the faster they can take measures in order to catch the person who is trying to steal your identity.

A fraud alert is absolutely necessary when something strange is happening with your credit, so make sure you do this. However, before reporting the strange activity to the police, you have to be sure that there is something wrong happening with your credit report, so check it before going to the police!

How to check the credit report

If you are hesitant about checking the credit report because you think that it is going to be expensive, you should know that it is not! In fact, it doesn’t cost you anything to check the credit report, as there are plenty of credit reporting agencies that offer the chance to do it for free! Are you interested in learning how to actually check the credit report? Well, the first step is to visit the Annual Credit Report official website.

The Federal Trade Commission is the one that backs the website and offers those interested the chance to see their annual credit reports. Those who are interested in more frequent credit reports will have to pay a fee, but it is very modest, almost insignificant. In order to check the credit report, you have to provide some personal information, such as the full name, the date of birth, the address and the social security number. Those who check the credit report using the internet will be directed to a secure page, so there should be no problems with the personal information. The information will be secure, so nobody can use it in negative purposes. The next step is to choose the agencies that attract your interests and the ones that you want to send the credit report. There are three central providers of credit reports and these providers are TransUnion, Experian and Equifax.

All three agencies should send you a credit report, as there might be discrepancies between them and by having three credit reports it is easier to find the mistakes. This is everything you should do in order to receive the credit report. As you can see, the operation is simple, so do it regularly!
